Themistius, known as Euphrades, was a prominent philosopher and statesman born in three hundred seventeen AD. His eloquence and intellect earned him a distinguished place in the political and philosophical landscape of his time, flourishing under the reigns of several Roman emperors, including Constantius II, Julian, Jovian, Valens, Gratian, and Theodosius I.

Despite the religious differences that characterized the era, Themistius maintained a favorable relationship with these emperors, who recognized his talents and contributions. In three hundred fifty-five, he was appointed to the Roman Senate by Constantius II, marking the beginning of his significant political career.

By three hundred eighty-four, Themistius had ascended to the role of prefect of Constantinople, a position he attained through the nomination of Theodosius I. His legacy includes thirty-three surviving orations, alongside various commentaries and epitomes of Aristotle's works, showcasing his profound impact on philosophy and rhetoric.
