Theodor Meron

Theodor Meron, born on April twenty-eighth, nineteen thirty, is a distinguished American jurist, lawyer, and diplomat. His extensive career has been marked by significant contributions to international law and justice, particularly through his roles in various international tribunals.

Meron served as a judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR). His expertise and leadership were further recognized when he was appointed as the President of the ICTY on four occasions, from two thousand two to two thousand five and again from two thousand eleven to two thousand fifteen.

In addition to his work with the ICTY, Meron was the inaugural President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, a position he held for three terms from two thousand twelve to two thousand nineteen. His commitment to upholding justice and human rights has left an indelible mark on the field of international law.
