Théodore Dubois

Théodore Dubois, born on August twenty-fourth, eighteen thirty-seven, was a prominent figure in the French Romantic music scene, recognized for his contributions as a composer, organist, and educator. His musical journey began at the prestigious Paris Conservatoire, where he honed his skills and ultimately won the esteemed Prix de Rome in eighteen sixty-one, a testament to his talent and dedication.

Throughout his career, Dubois served as an organist and choirmaster in several notable churches across Paris. Simultaneously, he imparted his knowledge as a professor at the Conservatoire, teaching harmony from eighteen seventy-one to eighteen ninety-one, and later composition until eighteen ninety-six. His tenure culminated in his appointment as the Conservatoire's director, succeeding Ambroise Thomas, during which he upheld a conservative curriculum that eventually led to controversy and his early retirement.
