Theodore Romzha

Theodore Romzha, born on April 14, 1911, was a distinguished Rusyn prelate who dedicated his life to the service of the Catholic Church. He held the esteemed position of Bishop of the Greek Catholic Eparchy of Mukachevo from 1944 until 1947, a period marked by significant challenges and turmoil.

Romzha's tenure as bishop was characterized by his unwavering commitment to his faith and his community. He navigated the complexities of a post-war landscape, advocating for the rights and spiritual needs of his congregation amidst political strife.

Tragically, his life was cut short when he was assassinated by the NKVD, a fate that underscored the perilous environment in which he served. His martyrdom did not go unrecognized; on June 27, 2001, he was beatified by Pope John Paul II, honoring his sacrifice and dedication to the Church.
