Théodore Sindikubwabo, born on January first, nineteen twenty-eight, in Zivu, Shyanda village, Butare, was a prominent Rwandan politician. He served as the interim President of Rwanda during the harrowing period of the Rwandan genocide from April eighth to July nineteenth, nineteen ninety-four. Prior to this, he held the position of President of the National Development Council, the Rwandan legislature, from nineteen eighty-eight until nineteen ninety-four.
Educated as a physician, Sindikubwabo initially served as Minister of Health under President Kayibanda. Following the political upheaval brought about by Juvénal Habyarimana's takeover, he practiced as a pediatrician at Kigali Central Hospital before returning to the political arena as a parliamentary deputy.
In the wake of the assassinations of Habyarimana and Prime Minister Agathe Uwilingiyimana in early April nineteen ninety-four, Sindikubwabo was appointed interim President by the Crisis Committee led by Colonel Théoneste Bagosora.
