Théoneste Bagosora, born on August sixteenth, nineteen forty-one, was a prominent Rwandan military officer and politician. He is infamously recognized for his pivotal role in the 1994 Rwandan genocide, a tragic event that led to the loss of countless lives and left a deep scar on the nation.
Following the genocide, Bagosora was tried and sentenced to life imprisonment by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR). However, in two thousand eleven, his sentence was reduced to thirty-five years on appeal, allowing him the possibility of release at the age of eighty-nine.
Renowned political scientist René Lemarchand described Bagosora as the chief organizer of the horrific killings during the genocide, highlighting the significant impact of his actions on Rwandan history. His life came to an end on September twenty-fifth, two thousand twenty-one, in a prison hospital in Mali, where he was receiving treatment for heart issues.
