Hailing from Marcourt in the Prince-Bishopric of Liège, her name reflects her origins, with 'de Méricourt' signifying her roots in this small town, now part of modern-day Belgium.

As a salonnière, women's rights activist, and revolutionary, she played a pivotal role in advocating for change.
