Theuderic IV

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Theuderic IV

Theuderic IV, born in the year seven hundred twelve, was a notable figure in the history of the Merovingian dynasty, serving as the king of the Franks from seven hundred twenty-one until his death in seven hundred thirty-seven. He was the son of Dagobert III, a lineage that placed him in a significant position within the royal hierarchy of the time.

During Theuderic's reign, the actual power of the kingdom was largely held by Charles Martel, the mayor of the palace. This arrangement meant that Theuderic IV spent much of his time at Chelles Abbey and later in Château-Thierry, where he remained somewhat removed from the political machinations of his era.

Following his death, the Frankish throne entered a period of vacancy that lasted for seven years. It was not until Carloman, one of Charles Martel's sons, took action to install Childeric III, the last Merovingian king, that the throne was filled once more. There is some speculation that Theuderic IV may have been the father of Childeric III, although this remains uncertain. Additionally, it has been suggested that Thierry IV of Toulouse could also be his son, adding another layer of intrigue to his legacy.
