With a remarkable record of fourteen gold medals at the World Orienteering Championships from 2003 to 2017, he stands as the male athlete with the most golds in the history of the event.

His prowess is particularly evident in the middle distance category, where he has claimed the World Orienteering Championships title an unprecedented eight times across various years, including 2003 to 2005, 2007 to 2009, 2011, and 2017. This impressive tally underscores his dominance and consistency in international orienteering competitions.

In November 2016, Gueorgiou announced his retirement from competitive orienteering, marking the end of an illustrious career. Following this transition, he took on the role of head coach for the Swedish national team, a position he held until 2017. His expertise and experience have since led him to become the head coach of the Finnish national orienteering team starting in October 2021.
