Thierry Omeyer

Thierry Omeyer, born on November second, nineteen seventy-six, is a retired French handball goalkeeper renowned for his exceptional skills and contributions to the sport. He joined the French national team in nineteen ninety-nine and quickly established himself as a key player, helping the team secure numerous prestigious titles.

Throughout his illustrious career, Omeyer achieved remarkable success, becoming a world champion five times, an European champion three times, and an Olympic champion on two occasions. His prowess in goal earned him a reputation as one of the greatest handball goalkeepers in history.

In two thousand eight, he was honored as the best player in the world by the International Handball Federation, a distinction shared by only two other goalkeepers before him. During his time with THW Kiel, he was affectionately nicknamed 'Die Mauer,' which translates to 'The Wall,' a testament to his formidable presence in the goal.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to handball, Omeyer was inducted into the European Handball Federation Hall of Fame in two thousand twenty-three, solidifying his legacy in the sport.
