Thomas à Kempis

Thomas à Kempis, born in the year 1380 in Kempen, Germany, was a prominent theologian, writer, philosopher, and Catholic priest. He is best known for his influential work, The Imitation of Christ, which has become one of the most cherished Christian devotional texts throughout history.

A member of the Congregation of Windesheim, Thomas was deeply involved in the Modern Devotion movement, a significant reform initiative during the late medieval period. His spiritual journey was shaped by the teachings of Geert Groote and Florens Radewyns, the founders of the Brethren of the Common Life, an organization that emphasized communal living and spiritual growth.

As a canon regular of the Augustinians, Thomas à Kempis dedicated his life to the pursuit of faith and the dissemination of Christian teachings.
