Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Thomas de Maizière

Thomas de Maizière, born on January twenty-first, nineteen fifty-four, is a prominent German politician affiliated with the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). His political career is marked by significant roles, including serving as the Federal Minister of the Interior from two thousand nine to two thousand eleven and again from two thousand thirteen to two thousand eighteen. He also held the position of Federal Minister of Defence from two thousand eleven to two thousand thirteen.

Before his tenure in the federal cabinet, de Maizière was an influential figure in the state government of Saxony. His roles included chief of staff to the Minister-President, as well as State Minister of Finance and State Minister of Justice. His extensive experience in governance laid a strong foundation for his later responsibilities at the national level.

From two thousand five until two thousand nine, he served as Head of the Chancellery and Federal Minister for Special Affairs in the First Merkel cabinet. Notably, he was one of only three ministers, alongside Ursula von der Leyen and Wolfgang Schäuble, to have continuously served in Chancellor Angela Merkel's cabinets from two thousand five to two thousand eighteen.

Since two thousand nine, de Maizière has represented the constituency of Meißen in the Bundestag. His political acumen and experience have positioned him as a potential successor to Angela Merkel, particularly alongside von der Leyen, as they were both viewed as capable leaders for the future of the CDU.
