Thomas Hearns

Thomas Hearns, born on October 18, 1958, is a celebrated American former professional boxer whose career spanned from 1977 to 2006. Known for his remarkable height and slender build, Hearns earned the nicknames "Motor City Cobra" and more famously, "the Hitman." His physical attributes, including long arms and broad shoulders, enabled him to ascend through the ranks of boxing, moving up over fifty pounds throughout his career.

Hearns made history by becoming the first boxer to win world titles in five different weight divisions: welterweight, light middleweight, middleweight, super middleweight, and light heavyweight. His prowess in the ring was recognized when he was named Fighter of the Year by The Ring magazine and the Boxing Writers Association of America in both 1980 and 1984, the latter accolade following his stunning knockout of the legendary Roberto Durán.

Renowned for his devastating punching power, Hearns maintained his reputation as a formidable opponent even at cruiserweight, despite his ascent through five weight classes. He is ranked number eighteen on The Ring's list of the one hundred greatest punchers of all time and holds the seventy-eighth position in BoxRec's ranking of the greatest pound-for-pound boxers.

In recognition of his contributions to the sport, Hearns was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame on June 10, 2012, solidifying his legacy as one of boxing's all-time greats.
