Thomas Partey, born on June 13, 1993, is a distinguished Ghanaian professional footballer who currently plays as a defensive midfielder for La Liga club Villarreal and the Ghana national team. His football journey began in 2013 at Atlético Madrid, where he showcased his talent and potential.
During his early career, Partey had loan spells at Mallorca and Almería, before returning to Atlético in 2015. His time at Atlético was marked by significant achievements, including winning the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup in 2018, as well as competing in the 2016 UEFA Champions League final.
In 2020, Partey made headlines with a transfer to Arsenal for a fee of forty-five million pounds, making him the most expensive Ghanaian player in history. Over five seasons with Arsenal, he played in one hundred sixty-seven matches and celebrated victory in the Community Shield in 2023.
On the international stage, Partey has represented Ghana in three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments (2017, 2019, and 2021) and the 2022 FIFA World Cup. His exceptional performances earned him a spot in the CAF Team of the Year in 2018, and he was honored as Ghana Player of the Year in both 2018 and 2019.
However, Partey's career faced challenges when, in July 2025, he was charged by the Crown Prosecution Service with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault involving several women in London. The legal proceedings continued into 2026 with additional charges.
