Thomas S. Gates Jr.

Thomas Sovereign Gates Jr. was born on April 10, 1906, and became a prominent figure in American politics and diplomacy. He served as Secretary of the Navy from 1957 to 1959 and later as Secretary of Defense from 1959 to 1961 under President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
