Thomas Sørensen

Thomas Sørensen, born on June 12, 1976, is a distinguished former Danish professional footballer renowned for his role as a goalkeeper. He began his football journey with Odense BK, where his talent quickly became evident. Following successful loan spells at Vejle Boldklub and Svendborg, he made a significant move to England, signing with Sunderland in 1998.

During his five-year tenure at Sunderland, Sørensen established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper, showcasing his skills and earning a transfer to Aston Villa for a fee of two million pounds. His time at Villa Park was marked by consistent performances until a disagreement with manager Martin O'Neill led to his departure in May 2008.

After leaving Aston Villa, Sørensen joined Stoke City, where he continued to excel as the first-choice goalkeeper for three seasons, playing a crucial role in the club's efforts to secure their position in the Premier League. He concluded his playing career with a two-year stint at Melbourne City in Australia.

On the international stage, Sørensen was the starting goalkeeper for the Denmark national team from 2000 to 2012, succeeding the legendary Peter Schmeichel. He earned a remarkable 101 caps, making him the eighth-most capped player in Danish history. His international career included participation in prestigious tournaments such as UEFA Euro 2000, the 2002 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 2004, and the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
