Tiago Monteiro, born on July twenty-four, nineteen seventy-six, in Porto, Portugal, is a distinguished racing driver known for his remarkable career in both Formula One and the World Touring Car Championship. He embarked on his racing journey in nineteen ninety-seven, quickly making a name for himself by securing multiple victories in the Porsche Carrera Cup France. His talent propelled him into French Formula Three, where he achieved runner-up finishes in two consecutive years, two thousand and one and two thousand.
Monteiro's ascent continued as he competed in International F3000 and Champ Car, ultimately finishing as the runner-up in the World Series by Nissan with Carlin, just behind Heikki Kovalainen. In two thousand five, he made his Formula One debut with Jordan at the Australian Grand Prix, becoming the first Portuguese driver to earn a podium finish with a third place at the controversial United States Grand Prix. He continued with Midland in two thousand six but faced challenges, concluding his F1 career with one podium and seven championship points.
Transitioning to the World Touring Car Championship in two thousand seven, Monteiro raced for SEAT until two thousand twelve, where he celebrated several victories, particularly in the two thousand eight and two thousand ten seasons. His move to Honda in two thousand twelve proved fruitful, as he played a pivotal role in their World Manufacturers' Championship win in two thousand thirteen and achieved his highest championship finish of third in two thousand sixteen. Despite a promising start in two thousand seventeen, a serious crash during testing curtailed his season.
Monteiro made a triumphant return to the re-branded World Touring Car Cup in two thousand nineteen, clinching victory in his home race. He continued to compete in the series until its conclusion in two thousand twenty-two, also winning the Nürburgring twenty-four Hours in the TCR class in both two thousand nineteen and two thousand twenty. Beyond racing, he owned the GP2 and GP3 team Ocean Racing Technology from two thousand eight to two thousand twelve and currently manages António Félix da Costa, the Formula E World Champion of two thousand nineteen to twenty.
