Timothy B. Spahr

Timothy B. Spahr, an accomplished American astronomer, has made significant contributions to the field of minor planet discovery. His career spans from 2000 to 2014 at the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian Minor Planet Center, where he served as the director from September 2006 until December 2014. During this time, he co-discovered notable celestial bodies, including Callirrhoe, a moon of Jupiter, and Albiorix, a moon of Saturn.

In addition to his work with moons, Dr. Spahr has also made his mark in the realm of comets, having discovered two periodic comets: 171P/Spahr and P/1998 U4. His impressive record includes the discovery of fifty-eight minor planets, a testament to his dedication and expertise in the field.

Currently, Dr. Spahr is the CEO of NEO Sciences LLC, a consulting firm that specializes in the characterization of Near-Earth Objects (NEOs), including Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs). He plays a crucial role in planetary defense coordination and manages the UN-sanctioned International Asteroid Warning Network (IAWN). Furthermore, he is an active member of the advisory council for The Planetary Society, where he oversees the Shoemaker NEO Grant program.

In recognition of his contributions to astronomy, the Florian asteroid 2975 Spahr was named in his honor, solidifying his legacy in the scientific community.
