Titus Calpurnius Siculus

Titus Calpurnius Siculus stands out as a notable figure in the realm of Roman bucolic poetry. His contributions to this literary genre are encapsulated in the eleven eclogues attributed to him, which showcase his talent and creativity.

However, the legacy of these works is somewhat complex. While the first seven eclogues are widely accepted as his own, the last four have been reassigned to Nemesianus, a poet from the latter half of the third century, during the reign of Emperor Carus and his sons. This shift in attribution is supported by both metrical analysis and manuscript evidence.

The distinction between the works of Calpurnius and Nemesianus was notably clarified by the scholar Haupt, who played a crucial role in establishing the separate authorship of these eclogues. This scholarly work has helped to preserve the integrity of Calpurnius's contributions to literature.
