Todd Ewen

Todd Ewen, born on March 22, 1966, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, was a notable Canadian professional ice hockey player renowned for his role as an enforcer. Raised in St. Albert, Alberta, Ewen made his mark in the National Hockey League (NHL) playing as a right wing for several teams, including the St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, and San Jose Sharks. His career was distinguished by a remarkable total of one thousand nine hundred fourteen penalty minutes, ranking him sixty-first in all-time career penalty minutes.

In 1993, Ewen achieved the pinnacle of success in his sport by winning the Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens. Following his retirement from professional hockey, he transitioned into coaching, creating several instructional videos with Championship Productions. Ewen also served as the coaching director for the Chesterfield Hockey Association and held positions as head coach for Lafayette Varsity and assistant coach for the Saint Louis University Billikens.

Tragically, Todd Ewen's life came to a premature end in 2015, following a battle with depression that lasted several years. His family speculated that he may have suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) due to the concussions he experienced during his playing career, a concern shared by many former NHL enforcers. Although initial tests on his brain returned negative for CTE, further examinations conducted by Boston University medical staff later confirmed the presence of lesions consistent with stage two CTE.
