Tokugawa Tsunayoshi

Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, born on February twenty-third, sixteen forty-six, was a prominent figure in Japanese history, serving as the fifth shōgun of the Tokugawa dynasty. He was the younger brother of Tokugawa Ietsuna and the son of Tokugawa Iemitsu, tracing his lineage back to the illustrious Tokugawa family, including his grandfather Tokugawa Hidetada and great-grandfather Tokugawa Ieyasu.

Known for his unique approach to governance, Tsunayoshi is particularly remembered for his pioneering animal welfare laws, which were especially focused on the protection of dogs.
