Tom Brands

Tom Brands, born on April ninth, nineteen sixty-eight, is a distinguished figure in American wrestling, celebrated for his remarkable achievements both as an athlete and a coach. Currently, he serves as the head coach of the University of Iowa men's wrestling team, where he continues to inspire the next generation of wrestlers.

Brands' wrestling career at the University of Iowa is nothing short of legendary. With an impressive record of one hundred fifty-eight wins, seven losses, and two ties, he completed an undefeated season in nineteen ninety-one, finishing with forty-five victories. His accolades include being a four-time All-American, a three-time NCAA Champion, and a three-time Big Ten Conference champion. Notably, he was recognized as the Outstanding Wrestler at the nineteen ninety-two NCAA tournament.

On the international stage, Brands achieved greatness by winning a gold medal in freestyle wrestling at the nineteen ninety-six Atlanta Olympics, competing in the one hundred thirty-six point six-pound weight class. His international accolades also include a gold medal at the nineteen ninety-three World Freestyle Championships in Toronto, two World Cup gold medals in nineteen ninety-four and nineteen ninety-five, and a gold medal at the nineteen ninety-five Pan American Games.

Throughout his career, Brands secured four U.S. Nationals titles from nineteen ninety-three to nineteen ninety-six and represented the United States on four consecutive World or Olympic teams during that same period. His contributions to the sport were recognized when he was named the USA Wrestling Athlete of the Year in nineteen ninety-three, as well as receiving the John Smith Outstanding Freestyle Wrestler award and the Amateur Wrestling News Man of the Year title in the same year. In two thousand and one, he was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member.
