Tom Marino, born on August 13, 1952, is a prominent American politician and attorney known for his service as a United States representative from Pennsylvania. His political career spanned from January 3, 2011, to January 3, 2019, during which he represented the 10th congressional district and briefly the 12th district before resigning to pursue opportunities in the private sector.
Before his tenure in Congress, Marino served as the U.S. attorney for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, establishing a strong foundation in law and public service. A member of the Republican Party, he was recognized for his commitment to his constituents and his legal expertise.
In September 2017, President Donald Trump nominated Marino to be the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, a role commonly referred to as the 'drug czar.' However, he withdrew his nomination in October 2017 amid controversy regarding his involvement in legislation that was perceived to hinder the Drug Enforcement Administration's efforts to combat the opioid crisis.
Just two weeks after being sworn in for his fifth term, Marino announced his resignation from Congress, effective January 23, 2019, to transition into the private sector, marking the end of a significant chapter in his political career.
