Tom Udall

Tom Udall, born on May eighteenth, nineteen forty-eight, is a distinguished American diplomat, attorney, and politician. He served as a United States senator for New Mexico from two thousand nine to two thousand twenty-one, representing the Democratic Party. Prior to his Senate tenure, Udall was the U.S. representative for New Mexico's third congressional district from nineteen ninety-nine to two thousand nine and held the position of New Mexico attorney general from nineteen ninety-one to nineteen ninety-nine.

Born in Tucson, Arizona, Udall hails from the prominent Udall family. He is the son of Stewart Udall, a former U.S. Representative and Secretary of the Interior, and the nephew of Mo Udall, another former U.S. Representative. His political lineage extends to his cousin, Mark Udall, who served as a Senator for Colorado from two thousand nine to two thousand fifteen.

Udall first entered the Senate after winning the two thousand eight election and was re-elected in two thousand fourteen, becoming the dean of New Mexico's congressional delegation. Notably, he chose not to seek a third term in two thousand twenty, making him the only Democratic senator to retire that election cycle. In July of two thousand twenty-one, President Joe Biden nominated him to serve as the United States Ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa, a role he held until two thousand twenty-five.
