Tomás de Zumalacárregui

Tomás de Zumalacárregui e Imaz, born on December twenty-ninth, seventeen eighty-eight, was a prominent Spanish Basque military officer who played a pivotal role in the First Carlist War. Known affectionately among his troops as "Uncle Tomás," he rose to the rank of Captain General of the Army, leading the Carlist faction with remarkable skill and determination.

His military prowess earned him the nickname the "Wolf of the Amezcoas," a title that reflects his strategic victories in the Navarre region. Zumalacárregui's leadership was characterized by his ability to inspire his men and navigate the complexities of warfare during a tumultuous period in Spanish history.

In addition to his military achievements, Zumalacárregui is often credited with the invention of the Spanish omelette, or tortilla de patatas.
