Tommy Docherty

Thomas Henderson Docherty, affectionately known as 'The Doc', was born on 24 April 1928 in Scotland. He carved out a notable career as both a player and a manager in the world of association football. Docherty's playing days were highlighted by his time at Preston North End, where he showcased his skills on the pitch. He also proudly represented the Scotland national team, earning twenty-five caps between the years of nineteen fifty-one and nineteen fifty-nine.

Transitioning from player to manager, Docherty took the helm of a total of thirteen clubs from nineteen sixty-one to nineteen eighty-eight, including a significant tenure with the Scotland national team. His managerial career is perhaps best remembered for his time at Manchester United, where he served from nineteen seventy-two to nineteen seventy-seven. Under his guidance, the club faced the challenge of relegation to the Second Division but made a triumphant return to the First Division as champions at the first attempt.
