Anthony Wayne Stewart, widely known as "Smoke," was born on May 20, 1971. He is a prominent figure in American auto racing, having made his mark as both a professional driver and a NASCAR team owner. Stewart's illustrious career includes competing in the NHRA Top Fuel class for Tony Stewart Racing and part-time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, where he drives the No. 25 Ram 1500 for Kaulig Racing.
Stewart's achievements in racing are remarkable; he is a four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, securing two titles as a driver in 2002 and 2005, one as an owner-driver in 2011, and another as an owner in 2014. His versatility is evident as he has also claimed titles in Indy, midget, sprint, and USAC Silver Crown cars, making him the only driver to win championships in both IndyCar and NASCAR.
Known for his fiery temperament and sharp wit, Stewart last raced full-time in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series during the 2016 season, piloting the No. 14 Chevrolet SS for Stewart–Haas Racing. His tenure with Joe Gibbs Racing from 1999 to 2008 was particularly notable, where he won two Cup Series championships and became the first owner-driver since Alan Kulwicki to clinch the championship in 2011.
Stewart's unique accomplishments include being the only driver to win the Cup Series championship under the old points system and the chase playoff format, as well as winning the title under three different sponsorships. His induction into the NASCAR Hall of Fame on January 31, 2020, marked a significant milestone in his career.
In his personal life, Stewart married NHRA Top Fuel Drag Racer Leah Pruett on November 21, 2021. As Pruett prepares to start a family, Stewart is set to replace her in Top Fuel for the 2024 season, showcasing his ongoing commitment to the sport.
