Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Tony Tan

Tony Tan, born on February seventh, nineteen forty, is a distinguished Singaporean mathematician, politician, and businessperson. He made his mark in the banking sector as a general manager at OCBC Bank before transitioning into a prominent political career.

Tan's political journey began in the nineteen seventy-nine by-elections when he successfully contested as a candidate for the People's Action Party in the Sembawang Group Representation Constituency. His dedication and leadership led him to serve as Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister from nineteen ninety-five to two thousand five.

After stepping down from the cabinet in two thousand five, Tan took on significant roles in various organizations, including deputy chairman and executive director of GIC, chairman of the National Research Foundation, and chairman of Singapore Press Holdings. In two thousand ten, he resigned from these positions to run as an independent candidate in the presidential election.

In the two thousand eleven presidential election, Tan emerged victorious in a competitive four-way race, becoming the seventh president of Singapore. He held this esteemed position until two thousand seventeen, choosing not to seek re-election in a contest that was reserved for Malay candidates due to a constitutional amendment. Tan officially retired on September first, two thousand seventeen, and was succeeded by Halimah Yacob on September fourteenth, two thousand seventeen.
