Too Short

Todd Anthony Shaw, known to the world as Too Short, was born on April 28, 1966, and has made an indelible mark on the landscape of American hip-hop. As a pioneering figure in West Coast hip-hop, he emerged in the late 1980s, bringing a unique voice that often explored themes of street survival, drug culture, and the complexities of relationships, particularly through the lens of pimping and promiscuity. His most notable tracks, such as 'Blow the Whistle' and 'The Ghetto,' exemplify his distinctive style and lyrical prowess.

Too Short began his musical journey in 1983, initially gaining traction with three independent projects that resonated with his Oakland roots. His breakthrough came with the album 'Born to Mack' in 1987, which sold an estimated fifty thousand units directly from his car trunk, leading to a re-issue by Jive Records. This was followed by 'Life Is... Too Short' in 1989, which achieved double platinum status and marked his first entry on the Billboard 200.

His subsequent works, including 'Short Dog's In The House' and 'Shorty the Pimp,' continued to solidify his status, with several albums peaking within the top ten of the Billboard 200 and receiving platinum certifications. Notably, 'The Ghetto' became his highest-charting single on the Billboard Hot 100 as a lead artist, showcasing his ability to connect with a broad audience.

In addition to his solo career, Too Short has been instrumental in shaping the hip-hop community. He founded the Dangerous Crew in 1988, a collective of talented Oakland-based artists, and later formed the West Coast hip-hop group Mount Westmore in 2020 alongside icons Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, and E-40. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Up All Nite Records in 2006, where he signed the hyphy group the Pack, which included the then-unknown rapper Lil B.
