Toru Dutt

Toru Dutt, born on March fourth, eighteen fifty-six, was a remarkable Indian Bengali poet and translator from British India. She made significant contributions to Indo-Anglian literature, standing alongside notable figures such as Henry Louis Vivian Derozio, Manmohan Ghose, and Sarojini Naidu. Dutt's literary prowess was evident in her ability to write in both English and French, showcasing her versatility as a writer.

Her poetry collections, including 'Sita' and 'A Sheaf Gleaned in French Fields' published in eighteen seventy-six, as well as 'Ancient Ballads and Legends of Hindustan' released in eighteen eighty-two, reflect her deep exploration of themes such as loneliness, longing, patriotism, and nostalgia. Dutt's works resonate with readers, capturing the essence of human emotions and experiences.

In addition to her poetry, Dutt authored a novel in French titled 'Le Journal de Mademoiselle d'Arvers' in eighteen seventy-nine, further establishing her as a pioneering figure in literature.
