Treat Huey

Treat Huey, born on August 28, 1985, is a distinguished Filipino-American former tennis player who made significant contributions to the sport, particularly in doubles. Turning professional in 2008, he began representing the Philippines in international competitions, including the Davis Cup and the Southeast Asian Games, starting in 2009. His career is marked by a remarkable achievement of reaching eighteen finals on the ATP World Tour, securing eight titles along the way.

Huey's notable victories include triumphs at prestigious tournaments such as the 2012 Citi Open, the 2013 Swiss Indoors, and the 2014 Aegon International, all achieved in partnership with Dominic Inglot. He also celebrated success with Scott Lipsky at the 2015 Estoril Open and with Henri Kontinen at both the 2015 St. Petersburg Open and the 2015 Malaysian Open. His collaboration with Max Mirnyi led to victories at the 2016 Abierto Mexicano Telcel and the 2017 Los Cabos Open, showcasing his versatility and skill on the court.

In July 2016, Huey reached his career-high doubles ranking of world No. 18, a testament to his dedication and talent. Throughout his career, he partnered with various players, including Somdev Devvarman, Brian Battistone, and Jack Sock, among others. Notably, he became the first Filipino player to reach the doubles semifinals at Wimbledon, partnering with Max Mirnyi, and was part of the top eight doubles teams competing in the 2016 ATP Year-End Finals in London.

Beyond his competitive achievements, Huey has also made a mark in team tennis, becoming a member of the World Team Tennis' Washington Kastles in 2012 and participating in the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) as both a player and coach with the Philippine Mavericks. In a full-circle moment, he returned to his alma mater, the University of Virginia, as Assistant Coach of UVA Men's Tennis on July 1, 2023.

Huey's journey in professional tennis culminated at the Citi Open in his hometown of Washington, D.C., where he played his first and last ATP tournaments. To honor his contributions to the sport, the organizers of the 2023 Mubadala Citi DC Open held a Retirement Ceremony on July 31, celebrating his legacy with family, fellow ATP players, and coaches.
