Trichy Sankaran

Trichy Sankaran, born on July twenty-seventh, nineteen forty-two, is a distinguished Indian percussionist, composer, scholar, and educator. Renowned for his mastery of the mridangam, he has earned accolades such as the prestigious Sangeetha Kalanidhi award from the Madras Music Academy in two thousand eleven. His contributions to the world of percussion have led to him being recognized as a 'doyen among the percussionists of India' by Sruti magazine.

Since the early nineteen seventies, Sankaran has been an active participant in various cross-cultural musical projects, showcasing his versatility and commitment to the art form. In two thousand seventeen, he was honored with the Tiruchirapalli Carnatic Musicians Lifetime Achievement Award, further solidifying his legacy in the realm of Indian classical music.

Having relocated to Toronto in nineteen seventy-one, Sankaran has made significant contributions to the local music scene. He is the founder of the Tyagaraja Aradhana in Toronto and serves as a professor of music at York University. His performances during the December Music Season in Chennai have become a staple, where he regularly accompanies top-ranked musicians, continuing to inspire and educate the next generation of artists.
