Trpimir I

Trpimir I, born in the year eight hundred fifty, was a prominent duke in Croatia, reigning from approximately eight hundred forty-five until his death in eight hundred sixty-four. His leadership marked the inception of the Trpimirović dynasty, a lineage that would govern Croatia, with some interruptions, for several centuries, lasting until around one thousand ninety-one.

Although he held the title of vassal to the Frankish Emperor Lothair I, Trpimir I adeptly navigated the complex political landscape of his time. He leveraged the ongoing conflicts between the Frankish and Byzantine empires to assert his autonomy and strengthen his rule over Croatia.
