Tuncay Şanlı

Tuncay Şanlı, born on January 16, 1982, is a distinguished former Turkish footballer who made a significant impact on the sport both domestically and internationally. Known mononymously as Tuncay, he began his professional career with Sakaryaspor before making a notable move to Fenerbahçe in 2002, one of Turkey's premier football clubs. His time at Fenerbahçe was marked by remarkable achievements, including three Süper Lig titles and a memorable hat-trick against Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League in December 2004, which catapulted him into the international spotlight.

On the international stage, Tuncay represented Turkey in major tournaments, contributing to the national team's success in finishing third at both the 2003 Confederations Cup and the 2008 European Championships. With an impressive tally of 22 goals in 80 appearances, he stands as Turkey's third-highest scorer and is among the top ten players with the most caps for the national team.

After his successful stint in Turkey, Tuncay transitioned to English football, joining Middlesbrough on a free transfer. During his two seasons there, he was honored with the player of the year award in 2009, although he could not prevent the club's relegation. Subsequently, he signed with Stoke City for a fee of five million pounds, but struggled to secure a regular starting position under manager Tony Pulis.

In January 2010, Tuncay moved to Germany to play for VfL Wolfsburg, yet he found it challenging to adapt and returned to England in the 2011-12 season with Bolton Wanderers. His career continued with stints at Bursaspor and Umm Salal in Qatar, showcasing his versatility and resilience as a player.
