Tupou VI, born on July twelfth, nineteen fifty-nine, is the reigning King of Tonga, a title he has held since two thousand twelve. His journey to the throne began with a significant political career, including his tenure as Prime Minister from two thousand to two thousand six during the reign of his father, King Tāufaʻāhau Tupou IV.
Following the ascension of his elder brother to the Tongan throne in two thousand six, Tupou VI became the heir presumptive, as his brother had no legitimate children. In two thousand eight, he was appointed as Tonga's High Commissioner to Australia, where he resided in Canberra until his brother's passing in two thousand twelve, which led to his own accession to the throne.
The coronation of Tupou VI took place in two thousand fifteen, officiated by the Reverend D'Arcy Wood. His reign has been marked by significant events, including the catastrophic Hunga Tonga–Hunga Haʻapai eruption and tsunami in two thousand twenty-two, as well as a constitutional crisis that arose from his dismissal of members of Prime Minister Siaosi Sovaleni's cabinet.
