Tvrtko II of Bosnia

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Tvrtko II of Bosnia

Stephen Tvrtko II, also known as Tvrtko Tvrtković, was born in 1385 and became a significant figure in Bosnian history. As a member of the House of Kotromanić, he ascended to the throne as King of Bosnia in the year fourteen hundred and four, a position he held until fourteen hundred and nine, and then again from fourteen hundred and twenty until his death in November fourteen hundred and forty-three.

Tvrtko II's early reign was marked by political manipulation, as he was installed as a puppet king by influential noblemen, including Hrvoje Vukčić Hrvatinić and Sandalj Hranić Kosača. This move was intended to replace his uncle Ostoja, who had become increasingly reliant on the nobility. However, after five years, Tvrtko lost their support and the crown, leading to a period of diminished political activity during Ostoja's second reign.

Despite his initial setbacks, Tvrtko managed to reclaim the throne by deposing Ostoja's son, Stephen. His second reign was fraught with challenges, including frequent Turkish raids that compelled him to accept Ottoman suzerainty. Additionally, he faced ongoing power struggles with Radivoj, another son of Ostoja, which further complicated his rule.

Throughout his life, Tvrtko II was married twice but unfortunately died without any children. His legacy continued through his chosen heir, Thomas, the brother of Radivoj, ensuring that his influence would persist in the region even after his passing.
