Txillardegi

José Luis Álvarez Enparantza, known by his pseudonym Txillardegi, was born on September twenty-seventh, nineteen twenty-nine, in the Basque Country. He emerged as a prominent figure in the realms of linguistics, politics, and literature, leaving an indelible mark on Basque culture and nationalism during the latter half of the twentieth century.

Despite not learning the Basque language until the age of seventeen, Txillardegi quickly became a pivotal advocate for its preservation and promotion. His passion for the language and culture propelled him into the political arena, where he played a significant role in shaping the Basque nationalist movement.

In addition to his political endeavors, Txillardegi was one of the founding members of ETA, a group that sought to achieve Basque independence. However, he distanced himself from the organization in nineteen sixty-seven due to disagreements over its political direction, demonstrating his commitment to a more peaceful approach to nationalism.
