Udo Quellmalz

Udo Quellmalz, born on March 8, 1967, in Leipzig, is a distinguished German judoka who has made significant contributions to the sport. Known affectionately as Quelle, he has left an indelible mark on judo, both as an athlete and a coach.

Quellmalz's competitive career is highlighted by his remarkable achievements at the Summer Olympics, where he secured a bronze medal in 1992 and followed it up with a gold medal in 1996. His prowess on the mat was further demonstrated when he clinched the title at the World Judo Championships in both 1991 and 1995, solidifying his status as one of the elite judokas of his time.

In addition to his accomplishments as an athlete, Quellmalz has transitioned into coaching, taking on the role of head coach for the Flemish Judo Federation in 2022. His extensive experience includes directing the British judo team and coaching for both the Austrian and Qatari teams, showcasing his versatility and commitment to developing judo talent across various nations.
