Ulf Timmermann

Ulf Timmermann, born on November first, nineteen sixty-two in Berlin, is a distinguished retired German shot putter renowned for his remarkable achievements in athletics. Coming from an athletic family, he began his journey in shot put at the tender age of thirteen, quickly establishing himself as a formidable competitor.

In nineteen eighty-five, Timmermann made history by breaking his first world record with an impressive throw of twenty-two point sixty-two meters. His most notable achievement came on May twenty-second, nineteen eighty-eight, when he became the first athlete to surpass the twenty-three meter mark, achieving a throw of twenty-three point zero six meters in Chania, Greece.

His athletic prowess culminated in a gold medal victory for East Germany at the nineteen eighty-eight Olympics in Seoul, where he outperformed Randy Barnes from the United States. Notably, the fourth place throw at this event would have secured victory in any previous Olympic Games. However, at the nineteen ninety-two Olympics, representing a reunified Germany, Timmermann faced disappointment, finishing in fifth place before retiring from competitive athletics.

Recognized as the farthest thrower of all time using the glide technique, Timmermann achieved throws exceeding twenty-two meters in sixteen different competitions. His coach, Werner Goldmann, continues to contribute to the sport by coaching shot put and discus throw in Berlin.
