Ulrich von Jungingen

Ulrich von Jungingen, born in the year 1360, was a prominent knight and military leader who rose to become the twenty-sixth Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights. His tenure lasted from 1407 until 1410, a period marked by significant military and political challenges.

During his leadership, von Jungingen adopted a confrontational stance against the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Poland. This aggressive policy ultimately ignited the Polish–Lithuanian–Teutonic War, a conflict that would have dire consequences for the Teutonic Order.

The culmination of these hostilities led to a catastrophic defeat for von Jungingen and his forces at the Battle of Grunwald. This pivotal battle not only sealed the fate of the Teutonic Knights but also resulted in the death of von Jungingen himself, marking a tragic end to his ambitious military campaigns.
