Unsuri

Unsuri, a distinguished poet and writer of the 10th to 11th century, emerged from the historical region of Balkh, which is present-day Afghanistan. His literary prowess earned him a revered position at the royal court of Mahmud of Ghazni, where he was honored with the title Malik us-Shu'ara, translating to 'King of Poets'.

His most notable work, the Divan, is a testament to his poetic genius, originally comprising thirty thousand distichs. However, only two thousand five hundred of these have survived the passage of time, showcasing the enduring legacy of his artistry.

Among the treasures of his Divan is the romance epic Vamiq u 'Adhra, a narrative that traces its roots back to the Ancient Greek novel Metiochus and Parthenope. Unsuri's contributions to Persian literature continue to resonate, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of his era.
