Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Uqba ibn Nafi

ʿUqba ibn Nāfiʿ ibn ʿAbd al-Qays al-Fihrī al-Qurashī, commonly known as Uqba ibn Nafi, was a prominent Arab general born in the year six hundred twenty. He played a significant role in the military campaigns of the Rashidun Caliphate during the reign of Umar and later served under the Umayyad Caliphate during the leadership of Mu'awiya I and Yazid I.

Uqba is best remembered for his leadership in the Muslim conquest of the Maghreb, which encompasses present-day Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco. His military endeavors also included a notable, albeit unsuccessful, attempt to expand into Nubia. His efforts were instrumental in establishing Umayyad rule across North Africa, marking a pivotal moment in the region's history.

As the nephew of the renowned general Amr ibn al-As, Uqba was deeply rooted in a legacy of military leadership. He is often referred to by the surname al-Fihri, which connects him to the Banu Fihr clan, a notable lineage within the Quraysh tribe. His descendants would later be recognized as the ʿUqbids or Fihrids, continuing his legacy through the generations.
