Urraca of León and Castile, born on June twenty-fourth, one thousand eighty-one, was a formidable ruler who left an indelible mark on the history of Spain. Known as La Temeraria, or the Reckless, she ascended to the throne as Queen of León, Castile, and Galicia in the year one thousand one hundred nine, a position she held until her death in Saldaña on March eighth, one thousand one hundred twenty-six.

Her reign was characterized by her bold claims to power, including the title of suo jure Empress of All Spain and Empress of All Galicia. Urraca is recognized as the first European queen to rule in her own right, breaking traditional gender barriers in a male-dominated society.
