Urraca of Portugal, born in the year one thousand one hundred forty-eight, was a significant historical figure who played a pivotal role in the politics of medieval Iberia. As the daughter of Afonso I, the first king of Portugal, she was born into a lineage of power and influence.

Her marriage to King Ferdinand II of León in the year one thousand one hundred sixty-five marked the beginning of her reign as queen. During her time as queen, Urraca was not only a consort but also a mother, giving birth to Alfonso IX, who would later ascend to the throne of León.

However, the tides of fortune shifted when her marriage was annulled in the year one thousand one hundred seventy-five. Following this significant change in her life, Urraca chose a path of spiritual devotion, becoming a nun and dedicating her life to religious service.
