Velikkakathu Sankaran Achuthanandan, known as VS, was born on October twentieth, nineteen twenty-three, and became a prominent figure in Indian politics. As a dedicated communist politician, trade unionist, and freedom fighter, he served as the Chief Minister of Kerala from two thousand six to two thousand eleven, making history as the oldest individual to hold this esteemed office at the age of eighty-two.

Affiliated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Achuthanandan was a member of the CPI(M) Politburo from nineteen eighty-five until July two thousand nine, when he was moved to the Central Committee due to ideological differences. His political career was marked by a significant tenure as the Leader of the Opposition, where he served for fifteen years, earning the distinction of being the longest-serving individual in that role within the Kerala Legislative Assembly.

During his time as Chief Minister, Achuthanandan initiated several impactful actions, including a demolition drive in Munnar that reclaimed illegally occupied land and a similar effort on Kochi's M. G. Road to restore public space. He was also a staunch advocate against film piracy and took decisive steps to combat the Lottery mafia in the state. His commitment to integrity led to the conviction of former minister R. Balakrishna Pillai on corruption charges.

Beyond his political achievements, Achuthanandan was a proponent of free software, particularly in the public education system of Kerala. His efforts in this area have left a lasting legacy, promoting accessibility and innovation in education.
