He has made significant contributions to the world of fencing, serving as the president of the Ukrainian Fencing Federation and the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.

Gutzeit's fencing career is marked by remarkable achievements, including being a world junior sabre champion in nineteen eighty-nine and nineteen ninety. He showcased his talent on the global stage by competing in three Olympic Games, where he was part of the sabre team that clinched the Olympic gold medal in nineteen ninety-two. Additionally, he earned a bronze medal at the nineteen ninety-one World Fencing Championships and triumphed as the sabre champion at the two thousand five Maccabiah Games.

In March two thousand twenty, Gutzeit transitioned from athlete to politician, taking on the role of Ukraine's Youth and Sport Minister. His expertise in the sport is further recognized through his position as an international referee for the Fédération Internationale d'Escrime (FIE) since two thousand two. His contributions to fencing were honored in two thousand thirteen when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the FIE.
