Väinö Kokkinen

Väinö Kokkinen, born on November twenty-fifth, nineteen ninety-nine, was a distinguished Finnish Greco-Roman wrestler who made a significant mark in the world of sports during the early twentieth century. He began his wrestling journey in nineteen twenty-one after relocating to Helsinki, where he honed his skills and quickly rose to prominence in the wrestling community.

Throughout his illustrious career, Kokkinen achieved remarkable success at the Olympic Games, securing two gold medals in the middleweight category in nineteen twenty-eight and nineteen thirty-two. His dedication to the sport was evident as he also competed in the nineteen thirty-six Olympics, finishing in fourth place. In addition to his Olympic triumphs, he earned one gold and four silver medals at the European championships between nineteen twenty-five and nineteen thirty-three, alongside six national titles from nineteen twenty-six to nineteen thirty-four.

Beyond his athletic achievements, Kokkinen was a skilled blacksmith and played a role in the Finnish Civil War. After retiring from wrestling in nineteen thirty-six, he transitioned into the business world, successfully managing ventures in the clothing and hospitality industries. His passion for sports continued as he served as a board member of the sports club Helsingin Jyry in the nineteen forties, contributing to the development of future athletes.
