Valentín Paniagua

Valentín Paniagua, born on September twenty-third, nineteen thirty-six, was a distinguished Peruvian lawyer and politician. He is best known for his brief tenure as President of Peru from two thousand to two thousand one, a period marked by significant political upheaval.

On November sixteenth, two thousand, Paniagua was elected President of Congress. His ascension to the presidency came shortly after the resignation of incumbent Alberto Fujimori and both of his Vice Presidents on November twenty-second, two thousand. This transition placed Paniagua in a pivotal role during a critical time in Peruvian history.

With Fujimori's decision to shorten his presidential term, which was set to expire on July twenty-eighth, two thousand one, Paniagua's primary responsibility became overseeing the new elections. His leadership was crucial in navigating the country through this transitional phase.

A longtime member of the Popular Action party, Paniagua served as both Secretary General and Party President, demonstrating his commitment to political service and governance in Peru.
