Vanderlei de Lima

Vanderlei de Lima, born on August eleventh, nineteen sixty-nine, in Cruzeiro do Oeste, Paraná, is a retired Brazilian long-distance runner renowned for his remarkable achievements in marathon events.

His most notable moment came during the 2004 Summer Olympics, where he was leading the marathon when he was unexpectedly attacked by Cornelius "Neil" Horan, an Irish former priest. This incident caused him to fall from first to third place, yet he persevered and ultimately secured the bronze medal. For his exemplary sportsmanship during this challenging race, Lima was honored with the prestigious Pierre de Coubertin Medal.
