Vangelis Meimarakis

Vangelis Meimarakis, born on December fourteenth, nineteen fifty-three, is a prominent Greek politician and lawyer. He is best known for his role as the acting President of New Democracy and as the Leader of the Opposition in Greece from July fifth to November twenty-fourth, two thousand fifteen. During this period, he challenged Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in the September two thousand fifteen Greek legislative election.

Meimarakis has had a distinguished political career, having served as the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament from two thousand twelve to two thousand fourteen. His tenure as Minister for National Defence from two thousand six to two thousand nine further solidified his influence in Greek politics. He was a dedicated Member of the Hellenic Parliament for Athens B from nineteen eighty-nine until two thousand nineteen.

In the leadership election of New Democracy from two thousand fifteen to two thousand sixteen, he faced a tough competition but ultimately lost in the run-off. However, his political journey did not end there; since two thousand nineteen, he has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament, continuing to play a vital role in shaping European policies.
